Upon request, we will provide training to departments on the server-side GIS products that we manage (ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE, Google Maps, Google Earth Enterprise). We are offering a number of short courses through the Virginia Tech Networked Learning Initiatives this Fall:

Fall 2015 NLI campus resource sessions
Comparing GIS Workflows in ArcGIS Pro

ArcGIS Pro is a new software product from ESRI that overlaps the more familiar ArcMap product in terms of functionality.  This session, offered online only via WebEx, will demonstrate common GIS operations in ArcGIS Pro and compare them to their counterparts in ArcMap.  Licensing, downloading, installing, and connecting ArcGIS Pro to ArcGIS online will be discussed.

This session will provide students with a working understanding of Virginia Tech's ArcGIS Online (AGOL) organization, virginiatech.maps.arcgis.com, and by the end of the course students should understand the cloud-based GIS model, how to log into the site, user privileges, content sharing, types of content, and using the AGOL interface to create maps and apps based on that content.

For training on the client-side GIS products (ArcGIS Desktop), there are many other options available on campus. For self-paced training, the ESRI Virtual Campus offers online courses in all the ESRI GIS software. Virtual Campus training is free to faculty and staff as part of our higher education site license. Contact Kathy Williams in IT Acquisitions for a course code.

There are also a number of introductory-level GIS courses taught for credit on campus in any given semester. Faculty and staff may also audit these classes. Here is a listing of GIS courses at Virginia Tech
