Seth Peery

Sr. GIS Architect

Seth Peery is Senior GIS Architect in the Enterprise GIS department. He specializes in GIS systems architecture, geospatial application server administration, GIS web application development, and the integration of GIS technologies with other computing systems. Seth founded the Enterprise GIS unit, building on initial prototype systems he had created as a Master's and PhD graduate student in the eCorridors program. He is the technical lead on most Enterprise GIS projects. He has been working at Virginia Tech since 2003.

Seth is currently completing a PhD in the Environmental Design and Planning program, with a research focus on the mapping and spatial analysis of broadband Internet access in rural areas and its impact on economic development. He holds a Master's Degree from the Urban Affairs and Planning program at Virginia Tech, with his thesis work focusing on the ability of next-generation broadband networks to enable economic development through the "Producer Network" concept that originated at Virginia Tech. He holds Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science and in Political Science from Radford University.
